a section i want to dedicate to my favorite pieces of art/media that make up bits and pieces of who i currently am
yabujin/azeroy series
it’s really weird and cryptic there are a few mini video essays describing him and his style. the name of my youtube channel stems from a song from his album “flash desire”. his music is very atmospherical and emphasizes the nostalgia of the internet from the early 2000s. i lost half of my hearing in my left ear for a week because i was blasting “unfamiliar oasis” from that album in my headphones, and as i was starting to accept that was going to be my life from then on, my hearing eventually recovered on its own which i’m very grateful for.
edward skeletrix’s persona
discovered him on instagram reels, he has his main account called “yuzuriah” and other ones like “peintures762o31”and “followback762o31”. he’s a person that i’m genuinely convinced is a genius but is messed up in certain ways which results in his artistic vision really being one of a kind. if you visit his twitter he has a certain perspective on life and mix that with the aesthetic he’s pushed you kind of realize how nhilistic his view is on life yet how dedicated he is to his craft, which i’ve learned to appreciate and take in in my own way. my favorite quotes of his are: “when you accept the problems they go away”and “nothing is separate me, you, and the bed im laying on are all the same thing. thoughts try to say otherwise.”.
convenience store woman, keiko’s love letter to the convenience store
one of my favorite books of all time. really put into perspective of what really matters in life and how you should live it relative to societal standards. it’s told through the perspective of a woman that may have a mental condition (although never explicitly stated) yet we see her being able to function completely fine in her day to day. she gets challenged once societal figures that are represented through characters such as keiko’s sister and her friends question why she lives the way she does, which was very well written with the author’s intention of shedding light on the fact that there is no right or wrong way to live life. the love letter at the end is amazing though and i highly recommend you guys read this i don’t want to spoil much more.
drain gang
first thing i can say about drain gang is that they without a doubt change lives if you open yourself up to actually listening to their music. i could attest to that because they’ve definitely changed mine. of course if you want to stop caring about what others think then you have to go through your own personal journey of self realization but i’m being serious when i say that this collective definitely helped me realize what it means to truly be yourself. watch the peroxide and amygdala music videos with an open mind and you’ll get what i mean. in my opinion: ecco2k > bladee > thaiboy digital (at the moment) and my favorite songs are: “faust, the flag is raised, in the flesh, girls just want to have fun (this one heals your inner child), plastic surgery (at the moment).
izaya tiji
for people that are into the underground scene and listen to early summrs, autumn, sofaygo, jace, yhapojj, etc, izaya tiji influenced your favorite underground rapper without a doubt. he has mental issues from my understanding, i’m pretty sure it’s schizophrenia, which i feel has a direct effect not only with the way that he disappears and deletes everything then comes back a couple of weeks later on social media, but his music as well. he’s genuinely really talented and was probably the artist i listened to the most in my last year of high school. favorite songs are: “ g.i.p, i had a vision, sayless, better off alone 2 and losing my mind”.
hanni, minji and haerin lemon zest clip
i don’t have much of an explanation, but this is definitely one of the most iconic kpop idol clips of all time. for the people that don’t understand it it’s probably weird but for the people that understand, enjoy and watch kpop reels on instagram, they know how iconic this clip is. my friend put me on to kpop back in my fourth year of high school and i was only listening to twice at first, and eventually he expanded my taste which i’ll forever thank him for. i mainly send frenchie and kpop reels to my friends and at first they thought it was weird but now a couple of them send kpop reels back and listen to kpop too which makes me happy.
ryo fukui’s scenery
i remember summer of fourth year high school waking up at 5 in the morning to go on walks and playing this entire album, as well as frank ocean’s blonde. also cooking naked in my house with all of the windows open while i’m home alone during the summer to this album is one of the greatest things off all time. “it could happen to you” is the first and my favorite song on the album without a doubt. “early summer”is pretty good too.
maplestory private servers
this one is pretty niche, shoutout to you if you even know maplestory, but if you know about the private servers then you’re a rare person. elliniams will forever my favorite private server. i never got far in it but playing maplestory with my older brother will definitely be one of my fondest memories growing up.
final scene of dostoevsky’s white nights when the narrator receives the letter from nastenka
one of the most devastating scenes that i’ve read through. i remember reading this specifically in westmount public library and having to put the book down after i finished the entire thing just in complete disbelief. dostoevsky has a talent of really immersing a reader into how the world he describes feels. it could be challenging to read through the long dialogues/monologues that characters go through, yet it’s pretty rewarding if you focus throughout the entirety of it. this final scene i won’t describe much other than even if it was completely fictional, in the moment it felt your entire life was crumbling apart, right alongside with the main character.
weightlifting fairy kim bok-joo
every kdrama has its own story and all that, i understand, but this, without a doubt, is the epitome of a cute, comforting romance. if any other kdrama try and go down this same lane they can’t compete unfortunately.
honorable mention: your lie in april final performance of the series
i don’t think i cried to this scene but i was definitely on the verge of tears. if tears were to fall out, it would of been of sadness and awe in regards to how beautiful it was all orchestrated. definitely one of my favorite scenes in all of anime.
